Tsengue Tsengue, from Congo-Brazzaville, designed and manufactured an industrial cassava grinder that produces 4 tons of cassava per hour. It took the inventor - months to manufacture this industrial prototype by hand and with the help of one (1) worker.

In simple terms, this industrial tool consists of a defibering unit that removes cassava fibers for the preparation of cassava breads called “kwanga” in the local language. The shredder, one of the essential components of the machine, is 3 m long and 2.8 m high.

The inventor, however, only needed three tools that cost him about 450,000 F CFA (€ 686) to manufacture this machine: a welding machine, a grinder and a drill. But the whole prototype cost a lot more.

The fact remains that it was not easy to manufacture this industrial unit. However, Tsengue Tsengue has proved, once more, that we do not necessarily need a lot of resources/equipment to manufacture industrial-grade machines that truly respond to local realities.

It's not the Russians or the French, let alone the Americans, who eat “kwanga” or cassava breads. Why should Africans call on them to make machines that they can manufacture themselves? Africa’s industrialization will become a reality thanks to inventors / innovators like Tsengue Tsengue.

Tsengue Tsengue is an inventor from Congo-Brazzaville who specialized in the fields of energy, water and agri-food, among others. One of his inventions is a cassava production line which enables the mechanical preparation of chikwangue or cassava bread. This equipment consists of a peeler, a grinder and a dough mixer. At the end of the production line, the dough is cut into cassava bread which is ready to be packed.

This device increases, in a more hygienic way, the production of cassava bread while continuing to meet the culinary expectations of consumers. The selling price of the equipment varies between 1 and 6 million CFA francs (1,524 and 9,146 euros) depending on the model.
Another invention by Tsengue Tsengue is an adjustable solar dryer for which he received, at the 35 International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, the gold medal from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) awarded to an inventor from a developing country, and the Swissolar prize from the Swiss Association for Solar Energy. This solar dryer can have multiple applications in agri-food.
